Femme Fatale

[Dolce & Gabbana Spring Summer 2011]

Are you ready to be dangerously seductive?

Interview with Stylist Candice Van Haltren

Candice Van Haltren is a professional fashion stylist based in Perth, Australia with vast experience in commercial and personal styling. I feel honored to get to know more about this creative and passionate soul behind CVH STYLING:

Briefly describe your own personal style.
My style always changes, as I'm always getting inspiration from different things. Sometimes its edgy, sometimes classic and polished, sometimes glam.

What is one definite MUST-HAVE item in your closet? And in your fridge?
Jeans – they go with so much. Dark denim is preferable, you can dress them up or down and they can be worn in so many ways (skinny jeans are the most versatile). My fridge always needs to have cheese!! Cheese goes with everything, grilled cheese sandwiches, on top of pasta, home made pizza, omelettes, etc.

Where do you get your inspirations from?
It's really just a creative thing, I don’t forcefully try and find inspirations in say, magazine. I may see a catalogue or a piece of ribbon and be inspired by it.

Tell us about your most memorable styling project.
The Cebiche swimwear shoot was definitely one of my favourites. I was styling alongside my friend and fellow stylist Karamea and it was very glamorous – set in the most gorgeous house I think I have ever seen! It was the kind of shoot you wish all shoots were like... lots of stunning models, everyone organised and easy to get along with, great positive attitudes and gorgeous swimwear and jewellery.

CVH Styling - 5 years from now?
Maybe still in Perth, maybe not, I'm going to have a lot of fun seeing where things take me and where I end up. I do love Melbourne and would love to work over there, but I do love so much about Perth, I think it will always be my hometown!

At the Edge

Rick Owens jacket | Oscar de la Renta skirt | Proenza Schouler satchel

Top three things that have been occupying my mind as of late: sleeveless biker jackets, asymmetrical hemlined full skirts, and linen-leather satchels. Fascinated with the idea of injecting a dose of edge to instantly pump up the volume of a romantic ensemble.

A Heartbeat Away

[Tobacco & Leather]

Knitted sweaters with mop-like shoulders. Leather & metal works here and there. Fringe everywhere.
Can you tell I'm in high anticipation for autumn?

With its subtle accentuation on the shoulders and appreciation towards the loose-fitting yet intriguing cuts, all ready to be perfectly styled with good ol' chunky boots, this collection simply speaks to me.

Night Owl

Vintage Escada blazer | Victoria's Secret slip | Thrifted clutch | F21 heels

No night is a typical night when I get together with my cousins. Right off the bat when they suggested we all have dinner together my mind immediately went into excitement mode as I breathed out "Oh here we go again". I can't say I didn't expect that dessert after dinner meant getting into random shenanigans inclusive of going around the city checking out boys for fun and making prank calls to friends, as well as laughing hysterically out of the blue for no reason. All I can say is... Here's to living life!

Viva La Cuba!

Flashbacks from a fortnight ago of such unforgettable time in Singapore -- more specifically at Cuba Libre, a calm and cool cafe during the daytime that turns into a loud Latin fest with tremendous upbeat energy as soon as the clock strikes 10pm and people starts packing in for a night of good fun!

Blast from the Past

Inspired to relive the 90s edge after the brief yet compelling nostalgia articulated in my previous post, I randomly pulled out my good ol' vintage Calvin Klein boxy vest bought on a really snowy day once upon a time in 1996 and opted for a look that is a tad more today-appropriate with a mix that included momma's fresh white shirt, lace leggings, and a bunch of contrasting rings. Indeed a satisfying way to feed my sudden hunger for the supposedly anti-fashion movement.

PS: Do you notice the nearly nonexistent yet effecting raindrops? It's beautiful.

Passing Time

Not sure why and how but these photographs bring back fond memories of my teenage years spent in Montreal, Canada during the late 90s... if only I could turn back time and relive those days when life felt so vulnerable yet so youthful and filled with high-spirited hope.

Like It's Golden

Starting the very first day of the new year with a spontaneous trip to the zoo!
